OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) was established in 1960. The goal of OPEC is to establish systems to stabilize oil prices and output of its members. The twelve members are: Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela.

United Arab Emirates was formed in 1971 when seven sheikdoms united and formed one country that gained its independence from the United Kingdom. According to the CIA World Factbook, the country’s area is slightly smaller than the area of the state of Maine. About five million people live in this desert country.
